I enjoyed this non-fiction book which I listened to in audiobook*.

It's short, only about 5 hours of listening time.

Biological Basis of Anxiety

Before Bernhardt got to the meat and potatoes of the cure, he spent the first chapters explaining the biological basis of anxiety and its triggers.

Why the Drugs (And Other Therapies) Don't Work

Another chapter explained Bernahardt's thesis about the failure of traditional therapy and drug-based treatments.

The Anxiety Cure

In the final chapters, Bernhardt explains his cure, which is to compose Ten Sentences that would improve your life.

For example: I'm happy to attend parties and find it easy to talk to the other guests.

These sentences need to be framed in a particular way; they must be positive, actionable and specific.

You can read about the 10 Sentence Method in this link to Bernhardt's website:

Bernhardt then explains a regular regime of meditating on these ten sentences using the five senses.

Bernhardt has cured many patients with this regime at his clinic, and gives specific examples of the patients he's cured.

Bernhardt also uses the Ten Sentence Method as a productivity tool to achieve his life goals.

Conclusion

I found this book very interesting, particularly the discussion of the different treatments for anxiety, and why they weren't beneficial in Bernhadt's opinion.

I was intrigued by the explorations of neural plasticity and the Ten Sentence Method. I wondered if the same mechanisms might be behind the benefits that some people report with a manifesting practice.

This is an interesting book I'd recommend to anyone suffering from anxiety or wanting to know more about the subject.

Bonus Tip *

Did you know you can borrow audiobooks from your local library via the Libby app? Certainly in the States and the UK, and hopefully in other countries too.
