While Ukrainians are successfully hitting enemy targets deep in the Russian territory, Ukraine started to celebrate its Independence Day from non-other but the Soviet Union. Quite ironically, what could be argued as the same leadership of that government is once again trying to split Ukraine apart, by seizing all of Ukraine.
Quite interestingly, Russian tanks that entered Ukraine in 2022, had Soviet flags installed on the top of the tanks. At the same time, in 2023, a Russian general, Alexander Lapin, was seen walking in Belgorod with the exact same flag on his right shoulder. Today's Russian military is not different at all from the previous Soviet army, which was ruthless in every aspect.
The United States warned that Russian attacks will likely increase on this special occasion for Ukrainians. By saying:
The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv assesses that during the next several days and through the weekend there is an increased risk of …
Russian drone and missile attacks throughout Ukraine in connection with Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24
Kyiv and much of the cities, yesterday in 23rd of August were under ballistic threat, as Ukrainian air defense systems were once again activated. I wonder if anything major will happen today in Ukraine. But taking into consideration people like Dmitry Medvedev are in the government, makes me to think numerous aerial attacks will occur today. As it is still early in the day right now.
Speaking of Medvedev, he recently said the following, even used the capitals to make his point:
They understand that there will be NO NEGOTIATIONS UNTIL THE ENEMY IS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DESTROYED
He made this point, after Ukrainians took over cities in Kursk region. Interestingly, I don't remember a time when Zelenskyy asked Putin for a ceasefire. It is the opposite, Putin asked Zelenskyy to withdraw his army from the occupied territories for peace. Medvedev just proved to Putin, he will be stuck fighting Ukrainian army for a while.
The massive oil/fuel depot in Russian region of Rostov hasn't stopped burning for an entire 7 days. The emergency services in Russia are said to be unable to extinguish this huge fire. It is worth pointing out that the smoke is toxic for breathing.
Large fields of farm land and forests are burning in several kilometer/mile radius from the depot that was stuck 7 days ago with a Ukrainian "incendiary drone". This facility had numerous metric tons of fuel and oil sitting fully loaded in the depots. No wonder Russian firefighters can't extinguish the fire.
Surprisingly, Ukrainians struck the depot again, while a major part of it was heavily burning. The point of the attack was to make sure Russia losses fuel and oil in those depots, which in turn would have an economic impact on Russian sales.
Here is what Ukrainians shared:
The oil depot, which was burning for the sixth day in Proletarsk, Rostov region, was again attacked by incendiary drones. the drone tried to dive into the oil storage facility — Telegram.
Meanwhile, Russian propagandist are announcing the sort of information that could endanger their lives, while publically sharing it on Russian television, in this case, the 1HD channel.
Obviously, he was seen wearing the Z symbol. But here is what he actually said:
The enemy has been on our territory for two weeks… (Ukrainian addition): Putin was accused of losing territories in the Kursk region, no one gives a true picture of what is happening — Telegram.
Even the Russian propagandists are having a hard time speaking lies to the Russian public. Contrary to what has been said by the Russian military and Putin himself, the situation in Kursk is far beyond their ability to fix it, as of now.
I find it interesting that Russian TV channels are saying this right now.
Here is the most recently published map by the ISW, as of August 23rd. In reality, not many territorial gains are seen, in fact the map shared on August 21st looks quite the same.
Luckily, there is a development in the shown Russian city of Korenevo. The entire Eastern part of Korenevo has fallen into Ukrainian hands, it has been said. While the Russian military is said to be controlling the rest of the city, it is unlikely they will manage to repel Ukrainian attacks. As Ukrainians are quite deep in the city as of now.
Both President of Ukraine, and his close hand official confirmed that the primary goal of this offensive in Kursk is to exhaust Russian military resources, not to take settlements or territory. The seized territory is, but the addition, that likely won't be given back to Russia without a fight.
Another explosion took place in a Russian depot, in the city of Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh region. The local Russian citizen filmed the moment the warehouse exploded, as "debris" of Ukrainian UAV said to have fallen right on top of ammunition?
Ukrainians shared this information concerning the explosion:
a hit of debris from a downed UAV, which led to a fire and the detonation of explosive objects. — Telegram.
It seems the entire depot didn't have a roof, if a single UAV's fragments caused the explosion. Truly interestingly the way Russian authorities share information. Likely, a fully operational drone successfully hit the warehouse.
Finally, it has been shared what weapons will be included in the $125 million worth U.S. Aid package for Ukraine. The list includes:
- Armored vehicles,
- HIMARS ammunition,
- Air Defense ammunition,
- Javelins.
- And other anti-tank missiles.
This is what Ukrainian military needs right now, the Javelins will come into effect in the Eastern part of Ukraine, where Russian units are using heavy equipment for advancing. Also, the United States allowed Ukrainians to use their weapons in the Kursk offensive, which is truly a big development.
Javelins, will likely turn out to be truly effective on the Russian soil, and the air defense ammunition will at least, replenish the current stocks, as Ukrainians are shooting down ballistic missiles on what seems to be daily basis.
Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!
