Lately, I have been trying to understand different arms and topics under experience design and I was doing my research into inclusive and universal design.

I recently just learned about universal design and it's pretty interesting to me.

Inclusive and universal design are two approaches to creating products, environments, and spaces that are accessible and usable by people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. Both methods aim to create environments that are accessible to everyone, but they have different origins and focus on different aspects of accessibility.

Inclusive design is an approach that focuses on creating products and spaces that are accessible to people with disabilities as well as those without disabilities. It is an approach that seeks to create inclusive environments for everyone, regardless of their abilities. The inclusive design takes into account the needs of people with disabilities, but it also considers the needs of other groups, such as people of different ages, genders, and cultures.

Universal design, on the other hand, is an approach that focuses on creating products and spaces that are usable by the widest possible range of people, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. It is an approach that seeks to create environments that are usable by everyone, regardless of their abilities. Universal design takes into account the needs of people with disabilities, but it also considers the needs of other groups, such as people of different ages, genders, and cultures.

Both inclusive and universal design are concerned with creating environments that are accessible and usable by everyone, but the process of achieving this goal is what is different. Inclusive design focuses on creating environments that are inclusive of everyone, regardless of their abilities, while universal design focuses on creating environments that are usable by the widest possible range of people, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

In conclusion, I was initially confused when trying to find the difference between these terminologies. Then it hit me: Inclusive design focuses on creating an inclusive environment that will have different processes and experiences catering to various people with different abilities, while universal design focuses on creating an environment that will have one solution that can be used by everyone. Both approaches are important for creating an accessible and inclusive society for all. But, creating one solution that works for everybody's needs is borderline impossible as some people's needs will surely be left out, I think this is where Inclusive design edges out universal design.
