A review of what I have learnt on my first week in Abia state powered Techrise program. I've been learning about cybersecurity, and here's a summary of what I've covered:
Cybersecurity protects individuals, organizations, and governments from digital attacks by safeguarding networked systems and data from unauthorized use or harm. I've explored: - *Personal data*: Information that can identify individually or a person, existing offline and online. - *Types of data*: Medical records, education records, employment and financial records. - *Data locations*: On-premises storage, cloud storage, hybrid storage, and remote devices. - *Computing devices*: Access personal data and generate information about an individual. - *Cybercrimes*: Motivated by financial gain, data theft, disruption, political or ideological reasons, revenge, or personal gain. - *Identity theft*: Stealing personal data for long-term financial gain. - *Data breaches*: Examples like Persirai Botnet and Equifax Inc. show severe consequences. - *Consequences*: Reputational damage, vandalism, theft, and loss of revenue. - *Cyber attackers*: Amateurs, hackers (white, gray, black hat), organized hackers, hacktivists, and state-sponsored attackers. - *Threats*: Internal (disgruntled employees, unintentional actions) and external (cybercriminals, hacking attacks). - *Cyberwarfare*: Using technology to attack another nation's computer systems and networks, like Stuxnet.
It has been interesting building a solid understanding of cybersecurity, looking forward to the next class.
